It feels that it has been raining continuously for weeks, though the reality is not really as bleak as that. But the continuing precipitation and dampness has delayed our plans for converting the rough gravel track fron the house to Porter Springs Road into a proper tarmac driveway. Discussions with our shortlist of potentail contractors has taught us a lot about the senstive nature of tarmac. If the ground is too damp, the hot tar will turn water into steam, making the finish product mpre friable than desirable. If it rains during laying the tarmac or if it is too cold, the cold rain and conditions will cool the tarmac down before it can be rolled smooth. If it is too hot (not likely at this time), the tarmac will take too long to cool down and the tar will not stick the aggregate together evenly. So many constraints! And what a lot we have learned about building realities over the last two years.
As well as the driveway timing, there is the upcoming NOA winetasting organisation to follow though on. And I have agreed to provide a series of blogs for Cavender Creek winery – read the first one here.
And maybe we will find time to do other things as well!
Maybe there will be another “Only in Dahlonega” item next week to add to the growing collection. Come back next week and find out!
