29th November 2015 – Drifting towards Christmas – and the tarmac season is slipping away

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas looming over the horizon, we have entered a favorite season in US tradition – shopping season. Last week, Friday was the big “Start of the Shopping Season” sales on the day after Thanksgiving (though very many shops were open for the start of the sales on Thanksgiving Day). Black Friday it is called, for typically the profits that retailers make over the year are equivalent to the gross sales from then to the end of the year. Monday is another key day for the Sales – the most significant day for online shopping of the year. The madness continues to Christmas Day (when some shops actually close for the day), and then on 26th December it is returns day, when customers take back all the things they don’t really want in the hope of refunds.

We are still waiting for the driveway to be paved. The critical Tarmac Season is drawing to a close. Soon the ground will be too cold for proper tarmac laying, and the chance of rain (the other big problem for tarmac) rises. I hope we do get a dry spell and the work can be done – the gravel surface is already to degrade again.

Maybe there will be another “Only in Dahlonega” item next week to add to the growing collection. Come back next week and find out!
