After the really cold weather last week, things have improved a little on the temperature front. We had a quiet time over the Easter weekend, doing more planting (for a non-existent garden, there is a lot going into the ground).
I also assembled the new table for the Big Green Egg barbeque, but I couldn’t complete the assembly until a helpful person came round to share the task of lifting the heavy egg into its final resting place.
On Wednesday we had visitors for dinner. Kris was a neighbour of Lisa’s mother in Warner Robins years ago – he is now teaching in the area and living in Dahlonega. Along also came his four years old son, Levi – a bundle of energy. Luckily the weather was beautiful that day and we sat on the screened porch to eat.
The weather at this time of year is very dependant upon the direction of the wind carrying in weather – from the North (cold!), the West (often with wet wet weather – and at this time of the year, sometimes a tornado), or even South (warmer weather). There is also a persistent cold wind from a Northerly direction (called a “wedge”), which seems to be accompanied by chilly drizzle. So, when our weathervane indicates wind coming from the South and East, it’s a good sign.
On Friday we had an invitation to dinner with Juli and John (whom we entertained a couple of weeks before. Les and Jenny from that occasion were also present, and we met two new acquaintances, Margie and Randy. Margie is a leading light of a local charity, and she was very interested to hear of my winetasting fundraisers in London for the Hobbayne Society – I expect to have some discussions with her about doing something on the same lines in Dahlonega.
